I’m not sure the ages of the children involved. It sounds as though they might still be quite young? It sounds like your daughter did a good job of educating the other child about the offence her comments could, and did, cause. However, it’s obvious the other parent feels uncomfortable, perhaps ask if there is anything you can do to make her feel more comfortable coming to the party for the sake of the children? She may feel worried that you have discussed the situation with other parents and she will be feeling embarrassed etc when at the party. I don’t think talking about it on the internet is very kind or necessary since anyone who knows you and the other mum in school etc will be able to identify easily who this is and it risks the child being alienated for ignorant comments which she has hopefully learned from. Of course the situation could be spoken about generally but most school run parents will know who other kids “besties” are and who is missing from parties etc. Personally I think it’s best to tell your child the truth however about her not coming so she knows it’s nothing to do with the child or her, just how the parent feels.

Offence is taken not given. The only appropriate response if someone says you have offended or hurt them is “Sorry”. It upsets me when people think they can decide on others behalf whether they can be offended or not or be pulled up on it. You did absolutely the right thing. It’s because they were made to reflect and some people don’t like it. 🥰
