I think the ending also shows how Emma can accept Charlie for his mistakes. She’s not a hypocrite, she’ll accept his flaws and wants the same in return.

Rachel is unfortunately the villain because she’s taking her cousin’s trauma and making it her own. but it’s also the pot calling the kettle black when she actually DID something and felt no remorse for it.

Why’d Rachel get mad she got moved off of the project at work?? She wasn’t showing up or answering her emails or texts. That’s not necessarily the best way to keep your job. That’s not Emma’s doing.

My hot take is that the restart at the end is more of a trauma bond than forgiveness and healing and starting over… she’s scared to have to deal with the secret with someone else, he’s embarrassed and upset with himself for falling apart. They’re sticking together and trying again because it’s easier than dealing with going separate ways because everything at least is on the table now…

I also noticed that a key part of her attempt to start again was mirroring their initial meet-cute, she let him start over when he messed up, but he didn’t give her the same grace to start over and say the right thing

i interpreted the ending differently- more as they are saying goodbye to each other, but also forgiving each other by starting over and leaving it at that. Both they’re tones shifted and sounded like giving up on each other

Charlie was another villain that ppl don’t think about. He doesn’t have his own personality or his own opinions. He even lied about a book he never read to get closer to Emma.

No one talks about the parallel between the book they met over and the ending of the movie. How it she herself couldn’t understand the ending. The movie itself has a very open ended finale to it as well

I thought about something where near the beginning of the film they are talking about the book emma was reading and she mentioned something about a mirror and wondering if the ending actually happened or not etc. then at the end of the film I felt there was a bit where it looked like rob patz looking into a reflection entering the diner before sitting down. it made me question whether or not that whole end scene was "real" and left it open to interpretation

i feel like rachel was worse than emma for a numerous amount of reasons, but especially because if she really took offense to what emma planned, she wouldnt have attended her wedding, she would have called the police like every other character suggests… she was just petty?? it was so weird like you’re treating a serious situation like.. drama?
