While reading this comment section please be aware of the currency conversion, I see a lot of people misunderstanding how it works. If a Canadian says $10, It's the same as $7.24 in USD. Groceries are still expensive but let's have this conversation accurately.

I'd also like to point out, our dollar stores don't have fresh/ frozen foods like they do in the states, at least not where I'm from. our dollar stores only carry shelf stable products and limited bread items

I’m in Ontario, for reference and those prices are from Walmart: 2% milk, 1L, 3.64$ / 12 eggs, 3.93$ / bacon, 375g, 4.97$ / butter, 454g, 5.96$ / olive oil, 500mL, 5.97$ / chicken breasts boneless, 1.5-2 pounds, 3-5 pc, about 12.95$ / ground beef, 1 pound, 5.97$. All of those are also full price. Hope this helps! 😊

Here’s a photo of a flyer of items on sale in the Toronto area… and this grocery store even tends to be more affordable than others… ALSO we have to pay taxes for some items as well

I disagree my dude. People refuse to shop cheap in Canada. We also have a Walmart and you can find $1 pasta and corn etc. if you shop the sales and buy thrifty you can make cheap meals but it would be difficult to make $5 meals like you do.

Hi! GTA, ON retail - butter ~$6.99+ - eggs (no frills) $3.93 - bread (noname at no frills) $1.99 - bacon ~5.99 (Costco) - milk $6.44 (any regular grocery - price controlled) HOWEVER, as several have noted, butter is regularly on sale for $4.99, eggs for $3.49/doz. This weekend, eggs are $3.49/18 at no frills. We buy almost exclusively on sale or clearance groceries, or via Too Good To Go (metro/Food Basics, mom and pop grocers). Or at Asian market - meats, e.g. often run 1/2-2/3 of any other grocery, sometimes less. Produce also often less.

The prices vary drastically depending on where you are. The further north you go the worse it gets. A 4L jug of milk can range from $7 to $18 and possibly more
