My mom didn’t like being around him, so I called her and told her I could assure her he wasn’t coming to my house that day. I asked her to come see me and the kids… and she did. While she was there, she stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. I was in the kitchen cooking dinner before I had to go pick my oldest up from the Boys & Girls Club. My door was already open… he was already inside with his son. I looked out the window and saw my mom pulling off… and everything that happened next took less than 30 minutes. Ava and Maverick started arguing over Ava’s baby, and Ava started crying. He came out and told her to take it to her room. I said, “That’s her baby. She can carry it where she wants. This is my house.” And just like that… He came at me. He grabbed me by my neck and slammed me against the door in the kitchen… choking me in front of my kids… and his son. I begged him to let me go. I kept begging. Finally, he let go. Then he got in front of Maverick and said, “If you don’t stop crying, I’ll give you something to cry about.” I said, “Please get away from my son. You’re not his father. This is my house. That’s my child—he can have his emotions.” Before I could even react… He had me by my neck again… this time on the freezer… in front of my kids. He choked me until I passed out. His son stood there… looking me in my eyes. When I woke up, I was on the floor. He was in my face, talking like I was nothing… acting like he was helping me… in front of the kids. And I still had to get up… and go pick my son up from the Boys & Girls Club. ⸻ This is part of my story. Part of my healing.
