I read the bell jar in 5th grade. My teacher was giving away books for free and it so happened to be the one that I grabbed. It stuck with me. It held a special place in my heart. I let a friend borrow it sophomore year. She never gave it back. I still think about that book. Never bought a new one because I wanted THAT one. My original copy.

I really need to publish my schizophrenic ramblings and drawings. I’d love for people to be able to understand what I go through

meds really do harm creativity. i’ve been writing a poetry novel since i was 14, i plan on finishing and publishing when i graduate. the amount of writing i’ve done has decreased so much since i became medicated and it hurts-just not as much as being stuck in the mind i was before.

My high school English honours teacher told me that I reminded of her of Sylvia Plath…I think she was trying to find a gentle way to tell me she was worried about my mental health

Nothing In Excess :
Although she only published the one novel, Sylvia Plath also wrote some of the most amazing poetry that truly illustrates how so often depression is an inevitable side effect of a deep thinker and feeler. Her poem “Words” speaks to a love and frustration of trying to use party words to describe emotions. It always is a study on how awful the English language is, but I digress-that’s a story for another post.

Having a mental illness or several is one of the hardest things to endure in life. Life is not easy and we should all put ourselves in others shoes before we judge someone or say anything negative. Everyone's life experience is unique and it's not a fairytale at all.

Marya Hornbacker with “Wasted” and “Madness” about anorexia and bipolar disorder are really well written. “Wasted” was Pulitzer Prize nominated when the author was just 21 years old.
