@moreperfectunion: Private equity's greed is squeezing mobile home residents living off of Social Security. Residents have had to skip their medication to deal with 125% rent increases. But a bill from Rep. Maxwell Frost could let residents buy their parks before Wall Street swoops in.
Private equity firms shouldn’t be allowed to buy and rent residential properties because their primary goal is maximizing investor returns - not supporting stable, affordable housing. This leads to higher rents, aggressive fee structures and cost cutting on maintenance, which can harm tenants and communities. When large firms acquire significant portions of local housing, they reduce competition and drive up prices, making it harder for everyday people to buy homes. Housing is a basic need, not just an investment vehicle and allowing institutional ownership at scale can distort the market in ways that prioritize profit over people.

That’s the difference between Maine and Florida. Maine has laws to help protect tenants and Florida doesn’t. Florida seems like an awful place to live

Our parks went from being under $600 to being over $700 in just over a year. One park near me is over $800. Please investigate Northwest Indiana. The same thing is happening.

Our mobile home goes up $80 every year. Used to be affordable. Now it’s upwards of $940 a month just for lot rent. We own the home. There aren’t any great amenities or upgrades to justify the price hike. Ppl are on fixed incomes and they’re driving them out. It’s very frustrating & sad. MY family has lived in this park for over 30 years. Some big company (Lakeshore Management) bought them out & have been hiking up the prices ever since!

It’s happening all around the country. Private equity has more than 1200 parks alone and climbing.

So the tenants who are renting the land can't approve of videoing on the property that they're paying for? I would bet there's some legal precedent somewhere that blocks corporate from this rule.

I’m in a mobile home park but I rent the home. They keep pressuring me to buy the home. I told them “why would I buy a home where I have zero control or say in how much you decide the lot rent is going to be? How is that beneficial to me? Me buying this takes debt off your books, where’s my benefit?”
