@woodlarkblog: naturally dyed eggshell chalk 🥚 dyeing eggs this weekend? Save the eggshells afterwards to make chalk! This has been one of my most popular spring projects for many years and for good reason. Here’s a new batch that I made for my youngest this year since she is now old enough to draw on her own. All you’ll need is eggshells and a natural pigment for dye. I’m using dry food ingredients from my pantry. Chalk made with eggshells is more abrasive and works best on sidewalks and pavement but if the eggshells are ground finely enough it will work on indoor chalkboards like the one I showed in the video. For a smoother chalk you can substitute calcium carbonate powder. Both are shown in the video Full tutorial (+ material links) on my blog! Materials: eggshells (or calcium carbonate powder), flour, natural pigments for dye in powder form (I used turmeric, paprika, beet root, matcha, butterfly pea) How to: Rinse eggshells out completely and remove as much of the membrane as possible. Boil for 5 minutes to sanitize. Grind eggshells into a fine powder. Combine 1 tsp dye material + 2 teaspoons hot water and stir. Add 1 tbsp flour + 1 tbsp eggshell powder or calcium carbonate. Mix together—it’ll seem clumpy. Use your hands to mix and knead until it smooth. Add very small amounts of water until it just sticks together. Roll out to shape and form sticks or shapes. Allow to dry completely. #naturecrafts #upcycledcrafts #diychalk #homemadechalk #eggshellchalk
