The way I see it, they are not a perfect copy. They’re not even all that similar in many aspects. But if perfect blue did not exist, I don’t think black swan would have either. Hollywood needs to give credit where credit is due

Satoshi Kon has talked about his run-ins with Aronofsky and how disrespectful they felt. Darren also wanted to adapt or bring over at least one of his films and Kon said no, so he's kind of a hack to me at this point

The denial of perfect blue’s influence is fairly damning. Since he sourced it as inspiration for a sifferent movie, we KNOW he’s seen it. If he owned up to it we could go “what a fun fact, inspirarion is great” but denying the influence with so many obvious comparisons it feels shady.

It’s so painfully obvious that he was HEAVILY inspired by Perfect Blue. I do think they manage to feel like different movies but you can’t deny how deep the blood of Perfect Blue flows through Black Swan. The fact that Aronofsky denied it is absurd

He did scene by scene remakes in requiem of Satoshis work. He did it again with Perfect Blue after Satoshi didn’t want to work with him. Black Swan may not be a direct copy. But there’s scenes and different aesthetic shots he most definitely did take and it’s sad that even he knew Satoshi did not like this and did it anyways. He could have cited inspiration but he knew that he could not because he had already muddied his relationship with Satoshi who was very vocal about his dislike of Affronsky taking key shots and wanting to cash in on his work which was very personal to him and his culture
