@drsermedmezher: POV: You Take Long Naps. Sources- PMID 26158892 @mav While long daytime naps are associated with serious conditions like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, the biological theory primarily focuses on the physical shock of waking. Napping for more than an hour pushes the brain into deep, slow-wave sleep. Waking abruptly from this stage causes severe "sleep inertia," triggering a sharp stress response in the sympathetic nervous system that rapidly increases blood pressure and heart rate. Repeated daily, this sudden cardiovascular shock is theorized to contribute to long-term heart and metabolic dysfunction. Despite this theory, the medical community heavily emphasizes that this link is most likely a correlation rather than a direct cause. The widely accepted explanation is that a frequent need for long daytime naps is actually an early warning sign of an underlying, undiagnosed issue. Conditions like developing insulin resistance or obstructive sleep apnea, which repeatedly starves the body of oxygen at night, cause profound daytime fatigue. In these scenarios, the long nap is simply a symptom of a pre-existing condition that is actually doing the physical damage, rather than the root cause of the disease. #naps #sleep #health

Absolutely, correlation doesn't equal causation. And in this case, I agree that it's probably the opposite. When I had undiagnosed sleep apnea, I'd easily sleep 10 hours a day during the week, and closer to 12-15 over the weekend when you factor in naps, and I'd still feel exhausted all the time. People that sleep more, are doing so because their bodies are telling them something, not because they're bored and just feel like sleeping their lives away.

I only take naps because I have a connective tissue disorder and I have to lay flat on my back to realign but I end up falling asleep sometimes but I’m already at greater risk for stroke anyways because of my condition so yea it’s not the naps lol

Ok, for me, I'm going through menopause. I do not get enough sleep at night. Once a week when I need a "reset nap" just to get me through. I'm also pretty certain not getting enough adequate sleep also had severe consequences. Not to mention, everyone's body is completely different from the next.
