@vocaldecoding: Singers, you've never actually heard your voice, and you've never actually heard your favorite singer's voice. Why? Because you run each one through the stories in your brain that you have about yourself and your favorite singer. Most likely, the story you have about yourself is negative, so before you ever hear your voice, those sound waves get run through a negative filter, and then you get to hear it. The same thing with your favorite singer. The stories that you have about them being so wonderful are very positive. Before you get to hear their voice, those sound waves get run through that filter, that story, and then you get to hear it. So how far apart do you think your two voices will be if you're running your voice through a negative filter before you hear it and your favorite singer's voice through a positive filter before you hear it? The only way to actually hear both your voices is to remain completely neutral, which is almost impossible because you have stories about each. This is neuroscience. It's absolutely true. So get out of comparison. Never compare your backstage with somebody else's onstage or the negative version of yourself with the positive version of somebody else. Get out of comparison. Get into the joy. Be authentic. 2026 is the year of authenticity for singers. Vulnerability and authenticity is the new power.
