“I need heeeeeeelp~” two minutes after breaking down the instructions and practicing together has been a quote that I can’t wait to have a break hearing this summer. We are there to help, but at some point, students need to learn how to put forth some effort as well.

I call em out a bit, tell them no you didn’t bother listening so ask your table for help, if they don’t know try it and struggle for a minute then try asking again. Usually they figure it out and if they don’t that’s when I’ll help em
