Regular potatoes are so freakin easy to grow—you can plant them in grow bags or containers like I show here, or straight into raised or in ground garden beds. If you get really into growing potatoes, you’ll learn all about the nuances of different varieties… but if you’re just growing whatever you’ve got sprouting in your cabinet at home, just get ‘em in the ground and keep them well watered like any other plant. Potatoes produce more calories per square foot than most staple crops, you can grow a substantial food supply in a relatively small area, and one pound of seed potato can yield 5–10+ pounds of food under decent conditions So they are a really smart thing to grow during these times of uncertainty.
