We give African parents too much credit The cycle should have to be broken with them you can’t keep the cycle and you have to be the one to break that generational cycle … it’s not a child fault they were brought into the western life if an African parent can’t adapt to western world then they shouldn’t raise children their and expect the child to grow up in an “African way” it’s unfair for the child either way … the African parent need to change the cycle it’s their own responsibility

our African parents also stole our childhood like their was stolen. they also pushed us into a life of servitude like they were. Basically, they are perpetuating the same ideals and perspectives their parents had. in a way we now share the same mental, emotional, psychological, financial, physical and spiritual burdens they carried. they are as much our oppressors like their parents were to them. they never broke the cycle they continued it. they are just glad it's their time to willed power over their children lives

Yep! I was raised like an eldest daughter but I’m the youngest child with 2 older brothers and a twin sister. My mom started my wive education at the age of 10. I don’t talk to her anymore.

It’s so interesting cus from what I know, my mom was friends with and very close with her mom growing up. Me and her weren’t close growing up and now she wants to be my friend. And I just wonder, didn’t you want the same kind of connection growing up that you had with your daughters?

My parents both raised us well. they really loosened up when one of them got sick, and their relationship with each other and us calmed down. they even encouraged us to seek therapy. my dad especially took care of us really well, and made sure we had a good support system for us and my mom.

so glad my mother retrained and reprogrammed herself and she realized that it's okay to be friends with your kids (especially their daughters). we had a rough start, but now that girl is my BESTFRIEND I can't imagine doing life without her
