🚨 Handling a “promotion” with no pay increase👇 When we’re keen to progress and actively seek out opportunities to help us move forward in our career, and an opportunity presents itself where we get to take on more responsibility, we have to make a decision. ❓Are we comfortable to take that on within our existing role because of the experience it will give us? ❓Or do we feel that the level of responsibility means it should be reflected in our job title and pay, even if just for a temporary period? This is especially important to consider if you know that others in your organisation have had changes to their title or salary when stepping up in similar ways. In these moments, it can be easy to want to please and say yes without any negotiation. But I would always recommend trying to negotiate in these situations. You can absolutely show your enthusiasm for the opportunity and negotiate at the same time. I’d recommend following these three steps: 1️⃣ Show your enthusiasm for the role and that you’re pleased to be considered 2️⃣ Ask questions before committing to find out more about how it will be reflected in your title or salary 3️⃣ Clearly share what you would be looking for in order to feel comfortable saying yes 📌 Please remember the advice in this video is generalised and will not suit every situation.
