Ali Abdullah Saleh core (former president of Yemen) he was born in Sanhan, a village near Sana’a, back when the Mutawakkilite Kingdom ruled. He got a simple education but managed to join the army really young through tribal connections. Pretty soon, while still young, he was promoted to lead an entire brigade, just around the time the revolution against the monarchy started in Yemen. Thanks to his smarts and political and military skills, he easily got close to and positioned himself within the new republican state. Over time, after several events, he became the president of North Yemen, becoming the first northern Yemeni president to stay in power for a long time compared to his predecessors. During his rule in North Yemen, the country saw its first period of real stability and major improvements in education and the economy. In 1990, he united North and South Yemen under one flag and one nation. Later, he defeated the Socialist Party, Al-Qaeda, and southern separatists in their attempts to break away from 1993–2000, maintaining control of the state with amazing political skill and balance for over 33 years.
