@hannah.rescue.cen: This is such a moving video for me to watch and take in every tiny nuance of the beautiful way these wild horses interact. First out of the chute is Las Vegas and he stands obviously thinking about what just happened and processing it all, waiting patiently for his mare Smoke to come out next. When she runs to him and he approaches tentatively and they exchange breath sweetly and ask “are you ok, I’m ok are you ok” it’s with such care and kindness. And then Smoke’s best friend Black Beauty comes out and they both greet her and make sure she’s doing good. Then out comes San Jose and it’s funny when both mares trot after him and Las Vegas catches up to say “hey what about me” and then Flower Moon joins them and they’re back together as a band and their love for each other is so palpable. This helps to heal my heart on a rough day when it’s been hard seeing another group of dumped mustangs and feeling pretty helpless and thinking about the downright greed of these people, devoid of any trace of compassion. The ones who lied to adopt them, the ones who took them to the kill pen and the man at Bowie, David O’Dwyer who has marked them up to $1280 to extort rescues out of funds, when all they want to do is save their lives. What despicable and dirty souls they have and how much contempt I have for them putting the almighty dollar before decency and kindness of any sort. Seeing this wild horse family I know without a doubt that they have more grace and goodness in their hearts than any of the villains involved in such a scam, using our beautiful wild horses and holding them ransom for their gain. Last year the number of horses shipping to slaughter increased by 5,000 and O’Dwyer/Bowie was the second largest known shipper of U.S. horses to Mexican slaughter facilities, responsible for over $3.5 million in slaughter shipments in 2025 alone. Sickening but the admiration and respect I have for these horses is immeasurable and immense and I’m grateful to call them my friends.
