Everyone needs to learn how to shop SALES. Start with a reasonable budget and a list.... If you save $5 a week: that’s $260 a year.... take that $5 and buy sale items for next week’s grocery use.... every week put savings back into buying for future use. I’m 68 living on SS too.... but I’ve been shopping sales for decades. My freezer and pantry is always full.... my average budget is $45-$50 a week but I’ll spend more for an exceptional sale: last week I bought 6 boxes of my favorite cereal, on sale 2/$4.... this week strawberries are on sale for $1.99.... I’ll buy 3 and freeze most of them. Spiral ham was on sale for Easter .99 cents a pound. I wasn’t cooking, but I bought one, divided it and froze multiple packages for ham anytime I want it. Years ago when I replaced my fridge, I intentionally bought a huge side by side for this purpose. Family packs of meat are cheaper than smaller ones... and I buy them on sale, split up and freeze. I buy meat rarely because I have more than enough in my freezer. I bake from scratch and rarely buy packaged foods.... Because I save so much, many weeks I can afford a treat.... it will take awhile to build up your stock... but stick with it AND YOU WILL 😁
