@chat_n_chops: Learning the cost of food in different countries. How much does it cost in Canada versus the United States? Food has gotten out of control with prices. God help us all. #chefmoe #Foodie #foodreview #homecooking #cooking101
Thank you so much! As a Canadian I’m so sick of everyone saying how much better it is in the States, we are all fucked😞

We are all fucked! In Canada we are taxed around 40% on our income and 14% on anything we buy… it’s harsh

to be fair, I've seen many videos of yours where you obtain meat and dairy from dollar type stores which is unobtailable where I am in Canada as well. For example, I am unable to get a kg of chicken for less than $18/kg

Unfortunately you cant really use exchange rate like that. yes that works if youre converting USD to CAD. Hypothetically, if a Canadian worker makes $15 CAD/hrs and a US worker makes $15 USD/hrs. The Canadian has to spend more of his income on groceries than the American.

I’m from a small town in Atlantic Canada and those prices aren’t anything close to what we would pay for that stuff… so it really differs from coast to coast. A 2L of milk here costs me $6 and a block of butter (4 sticks/2 cups) costs about $8 at minimum

I’m not sure where Johnny is getting his food in Canada however where I’m at $6 milk, $7 butter, $6 bread, $20 chicken, $3 barilla pasta, $10 cheese, $3 tomato sauce

The exchange rate doesn’t matter. Canadians get paid in CAD and spend CAD. If a Canadian travels to the US, outside of beer and gas yes the cost is equal. But a true comparison is dollar for dollar, ignoring the exchange rate.

Also he is shopping at superstore which is more expensive than Walmart. So I wonder if Walmart Canada to Walmart USA would be different.

the best prices are in the big cities. The smaller towns cost so much more, then there is up north. And those prices are on a different level. 😳

please remember that quality controls are also different in products. USA allows growth hormones in their milk and here in Canada it is not allowed. You are not always comparing the exact same products even though they look the same.

I think you need.to highlight that we have much stricter rules for our food. An example would be that growth hormones is illegal in Canada, so our milk is hormone free. We also have strict restrictions on antibiotics in milk. In Canada ketchup is made with tomato paste (often from 100% Canadian tomatoes), sugar, white vinegar, salt, and spices/onion powder so no high fructose syrup. Canada has banned specific synthetic dyes (e.g., Citrus Red No. 2, Orange B) and imposes stricter maximum usage limits (e.g., 300 parts per million for Red No. 3) on others. Canada also frequently uses natural colorants for products that are artificially dyed in the U.S. Canada has distinct rules for hormones in meat, permitting their use only in beef cattle to increase growth efficiency. The use of hormonal growth promoters is strictly prohibited in Canadian poultry, pork, and dairy production.
