Friends? — Sure, for some. To read Tolstoy or Dostoevsky? — Yes, that’s a classic reason. BUT… …here's what still surprises me. One in four students is learning Russian simply because of how it SOUNDS. 🎶 Not what it means. Not what career doors it opens. Just... the sound of it. The rhythm. The way the stress shifts and the whole word transforms. The unique softness of the consonants. The first time a student told me this, I thought it was a joke. Then I heard it again. And again. And again. These are people investing hundreds of hours into a complex grammar system — driven purely by an aesthetic feeling. Honestly? That might be the most human reason I've ever heard.
