Mine was doing the same 2026 limited. I took it to the dealership. They said that they have seen some issues with this on the new 2026 is where the tailgate is very slightly out of alignment which causes the tailgate not to open and close.

Take it back to the dealer to put some lube on it. It’ll work fine that’s what happened to mine.

That happened to my moms like two days after she bought hers but we took it to the dealer and the greased it and it works perfectly now

26 TRD Pro with no issues so far. Put a rough country soft roll up tonneau cover on it with no issues. Still new though.

My 2025 Tundra 1794 had the exact same problem as yours; I had to take it back to the dealership for repairs four times before they finally fixed it.

25 trd and I have the same issue. Ive resorted to just putting my hand at the tailgate handle then when it activates I pull a bit and it comes down. If I press the button its hit or miss.

Returned 6 times to dealership… all temporary fixes. Found out by another Tundra owner, if you shave the two round rubber stoppers on the truck bed by 1/8 of an inch…. That fixed the problem for me.

i have a 2025 limited and my tailgate was sticking like that and all i did was spray wd-40 on the latches and it hasnt stuck since i sprayed it
