@realbraidenshaw: Social Security is one of the biggest financial decisions you’ll make in retirement. While waiting increases your monthly benefit, taking it earlier can sometimes mean more total cash depending on your life expectancy and tax situation. It’s not just about the biggest check, it’s about your overall strategy and when the numbers actually make sense.

Either you need the money at 62 (take it) or you don’t need the money (take it and invest it). Either way. Take it.

You would have to also retire at 62. Many of us are still earning well and not quite ready to fully retire.

WellWiseWealth :
Many of us have high earning power at 62 and are not ready to retire. While the math you mention does play out- you do get penalized for income over $23, 600 (from memory) as far as social security. Ie they reduce your SS payment.

You get penalized if you take it early and are still working...its not just extra on top of your earned income. Rarely does the math work out in anyone's favor.

Most of those benefits will be taxed. Which is INSANE! You were state and federally taxed on the money back when u were working, then you put it into the system by paying Social Security tax, then you get taxed when you receive it! INSANE!
