@sciencefunn: The Artemis II crew is currently in the middle of their historic 10-day mission, having launched on April 1, 2026. As of today, April 4, 2026 (Flight Day 4), the crew has successfully left Earth's orbit and is in the "trans-lunar coast" phase of their journey. Here is the latest on their location and status: Current Location: Deep Space En Route to the Moon: The Orion spacecraft, named Integrity by the crew, is currently traveling toward the Moon. Distance Milestone: Earlier today, the crew passed a significant milestone: they are now closer to the Moon than they are to Earth. They are currently roughly 100,000 miles from Earth and 150,000 miles from the Moon. Trajectory: They are on a "free-return trajectory," meaning the Moon's gravity will naturally pull them around its far side and sling them back toward Earth without needing a major engine burn to return home. Who is on Board? The multinational crew consists of: Reid Wiseman (NASA): Commander Victor Glover (NASA): Pilot Christina Koch (NASA): Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen (CSA): Mission Specialist (The first Canadian to leave Earth orbit) Recent Updates from Mission Control The crew has been busy testing the Orion life support systems. While they briefly investigated a "burning smell" related to the spacecraft's toilet earlier in the flight, Mission Control determined it was similar to the smell of a heater being turned on for the first time after a long period and cleared the system for continued use. On Monday, April 6, they are expected to break the record for the farthest humans have ever traveled from Earth, surpassing the record set by the Apollo 13 mission.
