Ive always loved how it’s done in Dracula: Jonathan is concerned with everything he sees, but his and Mina's future ride on the deal he’s closing, and returning to England because he got a bad vibe is unacceptable. I especially like how he initially dismissed the locals as superstitious, but accepts a rosary from an old woman « for the sake of your mother » because he can sense her sincerity, and it worries him.
