Don't call adult protective services. That's for adults who cannot advocate for themselves. if you can ask for help, you can advocate for yourself. call your local agency on aging, they have all the info. or dial 211. Definitely hit up the family for help.

It’s so sad to me when older folks end up without family who are willing and/able to help them. My mom recently spend a lot of time helping out a friend she’d known since pre-k (she’s 70) because her daughter wouldn’t do it or when she did she wouldn’t give her her pain meds (she has terminal cancer girl, let her have her pain meds 😭). She didn’t stop until her friend passed bc they were basically sisters. But the older you get the less likely you are to have friends like that still living/physically able to help in the ways you need.

If she’s competent, it’s entirely her decision. If you keep helping she’ll keep letting you and the kids will keep letting you, too. You have to step back. Going to a placement isn’t always possible. It depends on a lot of factors in most states.

I wouldve cleaned up the poop for her, especially if she's said I can have her dogs when she can't take care of them, clearly that time is coming and she wanted to know you won't neglect them by seeing you help her. She's 90. We're supposed to be social, communal animals. We're supposed to be a pack. But we don't take care of our elderly or disabled. I know it's not her responsibility so I'm not calling her a ass hole bc to society she's got every right to do that. But I'm not a big fan of our individualism society
