I think the main point is that he made exceptions to his own philosophy.Most philosophy is post-Kantian now, having to deal with where Kant left us

I took enough philosophy intro courses to get a basic associates degree in a community college separate from my BA & MFA in art and wasn't taught this. Even in grad school the point was overlooked. I just made general assumptions. Lol. You've confirmed them but now, I'll look more into it.

I always thought of his philosophy as a bit sus since he said that you have to treat humans as ends not just as means. It's only with John Rawls that we have a stronger formulation of treating humans as ends and solely as such. I might be wrong tho
