You could keep your current phonak aid and do cochlear, just couldn’t control from the same app or stream to both sides at once. If you go with AB, make sure they support your current phonak aid. I know only certain resound ones are compatible with cochlear so it’s probably similar with phonak/AB! Either way, might still need a new aid. Just wanted to mention that if your Audi hadn’t!

If you have phonak, advanced bionics is compatible with it. That’s the CI brand I have and no regrets

I second Not get the compatible hearing aid for cochlear Americas! I got it after my CI surgery and it broke immediately (had it replaced 3x, broke 3x) stick w your phonak. (I have oticon hearing aid and cochlear am. implant. Works just fine except you can only pair one to your phone at a time )

I'm currently in the process of getting a CI on my left side. My doc recommended the Med El Brand wich is compatible with the Phonak on my right side. They have the traditional type of CI and also a single unit, wich I'll get. I like the idea of not having something directly on my ear.

I personally have cochlear Americas and I love them. I had hearing aids as a baby, implanted one side at age 8, then the other side at 17. They were vastly different experiences and the relearning was tough. But it was so worth it for me, almost 20 years later.

I’ve recently been told that I will be seeing the cochlear implant specialist- I’m so unsure on if it is something that I want to go ahead with but I’m also in the same boat of hearing aids just aren’t effective and with my progression, they will become less and less effective over time

Thank you so much posting this I’m 18 and currently with hearing aids. But my hearing will get worse and have thought about ci’s for the future possibly.

I switched from hearing aids to cochears when I was 17 and 18 (I’m 28 now). Might be on the younger side but I still remember everything. I also still do scientific tests for my ci team to help them with research since I have them on both sides, and can tell them about the difference ☺️

Oh wow! I have worn hearing aides since I was 20 when I was 53 I decided to go through with it because unlike you I never came to realization that technology wasn’t keeping up. But yes that is the reason. Did my right ear and then about a year later did the left. I am no 6 months in from the second ans sound is amazing! I wish I had done this 20 years ago and didn’t rely so much on lip reading and avoiding people.

I’m going through the same thing as you are! I recently had a hearing test and it showed only 10% speech recognition in my left ear so they suggested a CI. My evaluation is next Wednesday and we’ll go from there. I have Phonak HAs currently. Not sure what to expect from that; maybe another hearing test for insurance purposes.

I have worn hearing aids since I was 8. I’m now 32. I have always wanted the cochlear implant. But I have been told I don’t qualify based on my speech recognition without my hearing aids in. I do qualify for the Baha device but that’s not something I’m interested in.
