I don’t understand the point of NOT immediately calling Ty? I think that’s the point I dislike. The moment I see my friends spouse out in the wild I say something to my friend. It’s became an issue for me when they were having fun watching the drama instead of calling their friend.

My friends have no incentive to trust my spouse - I’d appreciate it if they reached out. Even if they were wrong. Someone once called child services on my uncle (wrongly - it was a misunderstanding), but he was grateful to know someone was looking out for his kids.

I think it’s more that they made up scenarios in their heads and were having a little too much fun with the idea of spying that rubbed me the wrong way. Personally I would have just told my friend up front, or at the most, kept an eye out but not gone out of my way to spy, then reported back to my friend any observations. But I also wouldn’t have ignored my friend’s calls, if they called I would have answered and then been honest. I don’t think Shawna and John were being villains like they said they were, though. Julie completely gaslit all of them in that scene!
