Diffrent goverment types are simply meant for diffrent people, the current notion that everywhere has to be a democracy is a very new and flawed idea

Democracy has to last multiple generations for it too stabilise. New democracies are often vulnerable. If the rights seem new they are easier to take away.

What I got from him was he was saying that a country can’t be a democracy if the people are always on survival mode and that they should first build a functioning society without corruption a functioning economy without poverty before they start building a political system

Wasn't Bostwana a long-standing parlamentary democracy? I may be saying bullshit but I remembered reading that they are both develope and democratic.

While I don’t agree with “democracy isn’t for us” we have to look at the condition of Burkina fasso. Half the country is run by extremists. Even under an electoral liberal system he would be illegitimate if half the population can’t vote. We also have to look at literacy rates. Burkina fasso has one of the lowest literacy rates in Africa. If your population can’t read how are you going to expect them to make informed choices on who to vote for? How are you sure they can’t easily be swayed by what someone’s saying and not be able to fact check for themselves. Then we have to ask what type of democracy. Must it be liberal democracy in the west? Well it’s unfair to expect nations like Burkina fasso to have it as they haven’t had time to develop the institutions that allow western liberal democracy to function. Are there different types of democracy? Yes but truly even if they attempt the west won’t like it simply because it’ won’t be liberal democracy. I’ll agree that not allowing people civic participation in the way the country is run is ridiculous but expecting them to have it while they face their material conditions is absurd and unfair. What Burkina fasso needs right now is a strong administration that can make good decisions for them. Again you can’t expect the population to vote in people who will do it for them if many can’t read

no country developed under democracy look at the only country that developed rapidly China and Singapore. The rest is still stuck in limbo democracy only works when you already have something or when your country has natural growth like Australia and Canada not when you already have millions of people without basic infrastructure

To be honest the only large and diverse developing country that has remained stable as a democracy is India. Some of that is due to circumstance and history (power and decision making heavily federated to states that are largely drawn along lingual and ethnic lines, history of various groups being conquered by foreign powers, etc), and some is of course due to luck. The most successful and stable third world countries that actually transitioned to developed countries (South Korea, Japan, taiwan, singapore, etc) either are ethnically homogeneous or had the luck of having leaders who were effective dictators but at least cared about their people. Even in India there was a political dynasty all from the same family.
