Significa preguntarse no solo

#UCI #CuidadosCríticos #Humanización #InnovaciónEnSalud #AtenciónCentradaEnElPaciente For years, Intensive Care Units have been defined by technology — monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps — a constant battle to sustain life in its most fragile state. But true excellence in critical care goes beyond technology. It lies in our ability to humanize it. Today marks a deeply meaningful milestone. For the first time in Najaf — and likely across Iraq — a patient with ALS on mechanical ventilation was safely transferred from the ICU to the hospital garden to feel the sunlight, breathe fresh air, and reconnect, even briefly, with life beyond the walls of critical care. This moment represents more than a clinical achievement. It reflects a cultural shift. Humanizing ICU care does not mean reducing technology — it means integrating it with dignity, compassion, and vision. It means asking not only “Can we keep this patient alive?” but also “How can we preserve their humanity while we do so?” This was only possible thanks to the extraordinary commitment of a multidisciplinary ICU team: nurses, technicians, and physicians working together with precision, courage, and empathy. A ventilator can sustain life. But it is human care that gives it meaning. Proud of this remarkable step forward — and of the Iraqi ICU team making it possible. Thank you, Dr. Ali Al-Shafeay, my dear colleague and counterpart as Head of the ICU, for your big heart and spirit that drove this extraordinary project.
