My family and I are currently living in Hawaii (military), and SO MANY locals comment on my southern (Alabama) accent! Military folks do as well, but I love it! There is no shame whatsoever in where I am from/how I talk. I’m super proud to be authentically me, and I will always play it up!

@Jacquelyn1954: In my 20's I once had an OB doctor who would Want me to make rounds with his patients cause I sounded like home. This was in an Idaho Falls, Idaho hospital ( Navy wife - husband was in Nuke power school) I was from Alabama and he was from Atlanta! It always made my day!

Yes me and my accent. I forget about it until someone mentions it. I have lost a lot of it but I have to slow down when approaching the word ruined to this day.
