IMO today’s power forward ideally is someone like Scottie Barnes. A guy with good size and length, can switch onto any position and guard the other teams best player for 48 mins a night giving them hell, and Has the ability to put the ball on the ground and make plays for himself but also has a very high IQ and he can run the offense like a point forward, bring the ball up the court, run the transition, find the open man or make the play down the lane. A true do it all, evolution Swiss Army knife kinda player who is gonna help your team win games because that style of play wins games. If ur a 4 who can score but not defend ur worthless the second postseason roles around, and the other way around ur pretty much worthless all together. So a guy like Scottie who is good at everything, and in some areas absolutely amazing. That’s exactly what I want in my 4. Look at Boston, Denver, the thunder, and the lakers. All won there chips with a 4 who could do it all on the court.

The positions made a lot more sense in the 80s when the 3 wasn’t as wildly. I think we see completely positionless basketball in 5-10 years. The “positions” will just be where a player starts on the floor for tip off.

there’s a 4th option. “the oldhead who can’t keep up at SF so they transitioned to PF” LeBron, Jimmy, DeMar, Khris Middleton, Tobias Harris were all SFs and even SGs 5-6 seasons ago, now they have moved to PF

PF is like tight end in football. It’s just the position where you put your matchup issue. Call me crazy but younger draymond is the model for the current NBA PF. Most of the better PF in the nba are just 6’6-6’9 glue guys, outside of players like KD AD n Giannis.
