Absolutely true. My mom was scammed many times for braces and medical equipment. I stayed on the phone with Medicare hours at a time to prove the company was fake.

I work for a very large health insurance company. Fraud in DME has existed since the beginning of time. We put in rules to catch it and they find a way around it. It is exhausting.

I check my parents Medicare statement every month. For the past 5 months it shows them each getting 5-6 catheters a month at a cost of $1500. They have actually had none. I call and report it to Medicare every time. It still continues to happen. I think they’ve paid out $60k so far to these nonexistent providers. It’s infuriating.
