no free public transport only benefits those in the city. more people drive than live close in city.

explain to me why when the war started, fuel prices sky-rocketed, when they've already paid the tax and paid for it. Why do we, as the consumer, get hit with massive bills for something thats already been paid for with cents on the dollar?

Making public transport free is only helping the living costs of people in the cities. The problem is for rural areas and our farmers who produce food. Or are you saying that this will decrease the demand of fuel consumption in cities making it available for rural areas. I’m not saying decreasing the excise is the solution tho as this will only further increase inflation

Problem with having free public transport is that it only works in the cities where there actually IS public transport. In most regional and rural areas we are dependent on cars etc because of the lack of public transportation.

The issue with the only public transport idea is that it only works if you live in the capital city. For all of us who live regionally there is very limited public transport

Love the free PT, but it is going to expose how poor and inaccessible PT is for a city the size of Melbourne and inadequate for our population, and for those in regional areas.

Can you make a video explaining our natural resources being owned by foreign companies or whatever it may be. E.g our oil, gas, gold, coal, uranium, etc. how we profit, why the govt doesn’t take over control of these industries and sell it direct.

Unfortunately for me, Im on a rotating roster that either starts before public transport in the morning or finishes after public transport in the evening so while I can't use the public transport, I still benefit from fewer people being at the pumps. I'm glad there was this two pronged approach.

You're forgetting the Deflationary effect of lowering goods and services transport costs. Food delivery costs are a large parts of why good prices are high. Free public transport has zero effect on that.
I personally think they both should be active together.
Cheaper tax rate for delivery drivers, ubers, all trucking and farming.
Free public transport for suburbia.
The inflationary effect should be neutral. If anything it might decrease fuel prices further

Remember free public transport does nothing for us who live in the bush or small towns. It's doubtful the price is going to drop down enough to equal the halved excise price. And I will guarantee you at least half the people in the cities will still drive.

Hey Rach, could you expand on the cost per day of PT vs halving the fuel excise, and the impact on the budget? I'm a staunch advocate for better investment in public transport but I would also love to understand the economic side of PT better.
