@dontexpectmuchhhh: The Tacoma Narrows Bridge opened in July 1940 and collapsed just four months later. Steady winds of about 40 mph caused the bridge to sway and twist. The structure was too narrow and flexible, and its design allowed wind to create a phenomenon called aeroelastic flutter - where movement increases the force of the wind instead of resisting it. The oscillations grew stronger until the bridge tore apart and fell into Puget Sound. No people were killed, but the collapse changed bridge engineering forever. #fyp #engenieer #bridge #physics #collapse
