I’ve been watching this series for 50 days silently, but today I am going to say it… this cat is an asshole

I dont want to intervene, because you are there with her, but I think you need to change something about her environment. She is controlling you, and she can sense your fear. I know you want to be patient with her, but always allowing her to be the pace and rule-setter is telling her she can do whatever she wants and you will be okay with it. You are rewarding her lashing out and hissing and its normalizing that behaviour. You need to change it gradually up a bit, showing her its safe to trust you because you are the one creating the dynamic and setting the tone.

Tell her no! She knows she controls you and can sense your uneasiness. She needs to know you are the boss.

with all the love and respect, I'm starting to agree with a lot of the comments here. I think she does sense your fear and she's still a sort of anxious cat and maybe feels like she needs to feel like she has some sort of control over her environment. but she's also regressing to an extent, I do think the hammocks should leave for a while and you should assert a little more dominance and try to reach a power balance with her. I know you want to be on her level and you're still anxious around her because of all the hisses and growls, but I think it's time for her to realize that as much as you love her and want her to get better, she is starting to control you. again, this is said with love and nothing but respect, you are doing so well with her but she is keeping this pattern and something needs to be changed to improve upon her progress. and I do think step one should be taking the hammocks out for a while like you did the tree. once again, all just saying with love

I definitely agree that the hammocks need to go. Rewarding bad behavior also needs to stop. I have worked with several wilder cats who learned that hissing results in a a bonk on the nose or a firm “NO”. She is in charge because you flinch and she sees she can hiss or growl and you retreat. You can’t be scared of her. It lets her know “hey I can hiss and she runs”. If you want her to become sociable you have to show her who is in charge, otherwise she’ll keep regressing.

I'm beginning to think Roo needs to be adopted by a farmer and live her life as a barn cat

She is definitely feeling more comfortable but worried she is learning she can dictate your space and regression may continue. Are there any behaviorists that can help you with some tips through this stage?

As a vet tech, I would ask about something stronger than Gabapentin. Fluoxetine or Amitriptyline. The Gabapentin should've started making a difference if it was going to.

okay it’s been 50 days and yes she’s getting more comfortable but i think she’s starting to think she’s in charge. be more confident around her since she’s getting more comfortable.

you created this safe space for her, and now she’s fully controlling you. i think it’s time to change how you treat. there are some helpful comments here you should consider.

as a cat owner and who also works with rescue, I agree with the comments section. Please change tactics. She is controlling you at this point.

You need to be more steady. Be in your space, own your space and stop being scared of her. Tell her “no” if she hisses when it makes no sense to hiss, and I don’t mean yell or shout. Just a simple steady “no” in a calm voice
