@sororityrushcoach: What is a legacy?✨ A sorority legacy is an immediate family member of an initiated member. For most sororities, you are considered a legacy if you have a sister, mother, or grandmother who was initiated into the sorority. Some sororities also recognize step-sisters and step-daughters! Now, here’s the question: Do legacies actually have an advantage during recruitment? Yes and no! While it used to be a big deal, most national chapters actually did away with their legacy policies back in 2020 and 2021. That means those old-school perks, like courtesy invites to Round 2 or a guaranteed bid if you make it to Preference Round, are officially things of the past. Some chapters can and do still hold legacy only teas and events in the spring, however, as a way to meet with and network with legacies and beforehand. It depends on your school and chapter. But don’t worry, this is actually amazing news for everyone! It means every single spot is now wide open for you to earn based on your own awesome leadership, involvement, and personality. This means that you are NOT at a disadvantage if you’re not a legacy! There are tons of girls going through sorority recruitment with zero legacy status. It’s not necessary or required at all!
