@jst_nmb: Since i can remember I followed the unknown, In shapes of a figure whom i cannot trace. I chased her down for years dreaming on my own, In hopes that maybe someday I’ll get to see her face. At first glance I saw her through a fleeting light, Like a fading shadow slipping out of view. I ran behind to catch her at every given sight, Like she was something lost or something I once knew. But she would always vanish out of silent air, Her footsteps were soft, I’d follow where they led. At her ghostly figure I’d always choose to stare, Yet every single moment, she’d be a step ahead. I thought that if i called her, she would choose to stay, But then my voice dissolved into something still. No matter how i fought to let her walk away, Once again I chased and moved against my will. One day she was dancing at a peaceful sound, As i was admiring i stepped a little near. She seemed to be free when i was not around, But when she felt my presence she ran away in fear. Laughter drifted gently like a sound I couldn’t keep, It echoed in the distance then slowly slipped away. It felt like a memory I buried somewhere deep, Or perhaps a feeling I had lost along the way. I chased her every step though something felt so wrong, No matter how much she ran i’d be closer every day. If she had been watching from a distance all along, I don’t understand why she would run away. Before she could escape I grabbed her by the arm, My fingers closing tightly around her fragile wrist. But to my shock I realised I was only causing harm, As fractures spread like glass through my wounded fist. Then she turned around, her eyes filled with fear, I trembled back in shock by the person I could see. No stranger’s eyes looked back, no unknown soul was near, This person had my face, this person was me. #quote #poetry
