The Chinese characters on some of the phones, "載的" (zài de) and "飛的" (fēi de), refer to different types of taxi services in Hong Kong, essentially meaning "picked-up/booked taxi" and "flying taxi" (a common term for taxis booked via an app or phone). This extreme use of multiple phones is often seen among Hong Kong taxi drivers for a few key reasons: 1. Maximizing Bookings: Each phone is often running a different ride-hailing app or is connected to a different unofficial taxi-calling network/group. By having so many lines/apps open, the driver maximizes their chances of quickly receiving and choosing the most profitable and convenient ride requests. 2. Dispatch and Communication: Some phones are used for communication within groups of taxi drivers (like a dispatch or chat function) to relay information or calls. 3.
