I always recommend Blackford hill. I think it has (arguably) more interesting views than Arthur’s seat, it’s way less crowded and way more accessible.

Camera obscura earned a lot of respect from me a couple years ago. I went with my sister and found that a lot of the effects didn’t work with my eyes because I have anismetopia. I got an auto email for a review so left one saying it was good but showing more of the effects would have allowed me to know it wouldn’t work for me. All the effects on the website are ones I could do but there was two whole rooms I couldn’t. Guest relations contacted me and refunded me in full. I said they didn’t have to especially since my siblings enjoyed it but they still did.

As someone who lives in Edinburgh, tourists NEED to go shopping in town and in st James quarter, that’s basically why I live here

Spot on. Even as someone who likes history, I think the castle isnt that great. Unless you like Military history or stare at the crown jewels. I think Holyrood Palace is much cooler in general

I actually really enjoyed Camera Obscura! It is expensive but it's a good hour or two, especially with children. Very interactive.

Okay random but the ghost bus tours also were EXTREMELY fun and gave us a sense of the city (if goofy and spooky) but it was a great rainy night activity when we went in fall when the daylight was scarce.

Calton hill was one of the best parts of my trip to Edinburgh. Catching the sunset there was magical!

Complete disagree on the castle. It's a fascinating structure, built to withstand attack for hundreds of years, overflowing with history in every knook and cranny and still used by the military today. It's a genuine medieval fortress with spectacular views of the city. Saying you get a good feel for it by looking at the outside is like saying you can listen to a Taylor Swift concert from outside the stadium. Sure, but you'd rather have a ticket right?

I absolutely adored Edinburgh when I went in September. It holds a very special place in my heart now, I feel practically homesick just thinking about it now and that was the first and only time I had ever been. I don’t really know how to describe it even, it just felt like home, I don’t feel that way even for my hometown so it’s a new feeling for me. I know that sounds fake or “too much”, but I’ve never really felt that way about any other city, and I have travelled a lot in my life. I really want to go back, maybe even move there in the future 🫶

you need to revisit camera obscura absolutely fascinating, fun and the viewing tower with telescopes and binoculars and 360 degree views. do it and review it honestly for visitors.

I would just recommend all the bookshops! my fave is probably the lighthouse but I have two more that compete for that spot

One thing I always anti-recommend (for lack of a better phrase🤣) is the Harry Potter shop on Victoria Street. There’s always a huge queue and it sells literally the same stuff every other HP shop in Edinburgh sells 🤷‍♀️

Let’s say this really depends on the taste of the visitor though. Cause I think not giving Greyfriars Kirkyard an 11/10 is DIABOLICAL

I LOVED the royal yacht Britannia. One of the best museums I’ve been to in a long time 🤗 and I’m not particularly interested in naval or royal history. I thought it was a fun and different experience
