![[06/09, 21:46] Caesar news STREET BEGGING IN GHANA *NIGER COMMUNITY URGES GOVERNMENT TO ACT* The Nigerien community in the Ashanti Region is calling on the government to take firm action against persons engaged in street begging, particularly those involving children. The call follows the recent operation by the Interior Ministry and the Ghana Immigration Service to remove street beggars from major streets in Kumasi and Accra. The Ashanti Regional Chief of the Niger Community, Mohammad Abubakar Sadiq, says it is wrong to assume that all the persons involved are from Niger. He says street begging is not supported by the Nigerien community, stressing that such conduct is unacceptable. Mr. Abubakar says the Nigerien government has also condemned the practice and therefore will not support anyone who comes to Ghana to engage in it. He wants the authorities to properly screen those arrested and take appropriate action against persons found to be in the country illegally.
