A betting App asked me to do 1 video for them for 1k they had a confidentiality and exclusivity clause basically I was not allowed to work with competitors for 7 months basically ( paying me R142,85) per month 😭 I rejected them that’s not even what I charge per video

Always negotiate even if the offer is good, charge for content creation (planning, filming and editing), charge for your audience & definitely charge for usage rights.

They are even asking for RAW files now. In the contract, they will even go as far as to say that you grant them rights to create still images for internal and external communications, press releases, billboards, etc. All from one video that they can take stills from. That's a new one I recently caught. Same brand wanted 1 year exclusivity across many product categories

You can’t accept a once-off service in exchange for content that’s going to live on your page for months. Ohhhh Lebo I’m glad you’ve mentioned this. Brands are unbelievable at times when it comes to paying creators. At the beginning of the year, we off boarded a client because they wanted a lot of creators for a budget for 1 person. It’s absolutely insane. I honestly believe that even marketing agencies have a responsibility to speak up for creators because they can’t speak for themselves at the table. These partnerships are not meant to benefit just one party but both.

One of these big brands that we use the clean our homes tried to come at me sideways. The brief said maybe 4 things they wanted me to do. Then I quoted. Then they agreed and suddenly the contract has 24 things I’m meant to do. I walked away.

This is why one needs to ensure that the partnership is beneficial for both brand and influencer. From payment terms to usage an exclusivity. Simply taking non paid work to be associated with a brand is crazy business. All your efforts for a trade exchange? Nope! 🙂↔️

I had a 5 page brief sent to me for "exposure and potential future payment" (a Midlands page) 🫠🫠 straight after that I was sent a contract for trade exchange and usage rights ( a South African gym brand) sana🤚🏽
