@drgolly: Most swaddles fail because you’re not swaddling for YOUR baby’s type. 🔥 There’s no such thing as a “perfect swaddle” - until you identify what kind of baby you have. Some babies are arms down babies. Others (like Coco) are arms up babies - their hands naturally drift up toward their face at rest. And if you swaddle them the wrong way? It won’t work. For an arms-up baby: • Create a small fold at the top (like a collar). • Trap the hand under that first fold. • Wrap across and down, using baby’s body weight to secure it. • Repeat on the other side - cross down and wrap super tight. Their hands stay up - but can’t touch their cheeks (which can trigger feeding cues and keep them unsettled). And remember: 🚫 Legs are NOT wrapped tight. Hip movement is essential for healthy development. A proper, tight swaddle is one of the most powerful settling techniques you can use in the newborn stage. Wrong technique = frustrated baby.
