@cpap_sleep_coach: What finally got through? It wasn’t the snoring. It wasn’t the exhaustion. It wasn’t even the “you stop breathing.” 👉 It was my husband’s blood pressure. Because at some point… it stops feeling like “just sleep.” And starts feeling like something bigger is going on. Here’s the part most people don’t realize: Untreated sleep apnea doesn’t just make you tired. It keeps your body in a constant stress response all night long. 👉 Heart rate up 👉 Oxygen dropping 👉 Blood pressure rising And your body never gets the chance to fully reset. So when someone says: “It’s not that bad…” Sometimes what they really mean is: “I haven’t felt the full impact yet.” This is often the turning point. Not fear. Not pressure. 👉 Awareness. And once that clicks… everything starts to change. ⚠️ MEDICAL DISCLAIMER This content is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice. Thank you for sharing this — it’s such an important story. 💙 Sleep apnea doesn’t always look the way people expect. Many people don’t snore loudly or gasp, and it still can be severe and impact things like A-fib, blood pressure, and overall health. What you both went through — learning, connecting the dots, and then sticking with therapy — is exactly what helps people succeed long term. That perseverance in the early stages really matters. You’re both doing something incredibly important for your health, even if it wasn’t obvious at first. You and your husband’s story is why I educate on this. It’s more common than people realize.

We didn't know my husband had A-fib until he started being SOB while walking. Once diagnosed the journey began. A sleep study was next, which really surprised me, he didn't snore on a regular basis, I didn't notice him waking up gasping. Severe sleep apnea was diagnose. A lot of learning came next. Finding out that sleep apnea can cause A-fib and a number of metabolic conditions. This was a turning point for him. Mine came later after years of fatigue and searching for answers and being asked by my PCP to do a sleep study. I did snore on occasion but not, I am told, regularly. No other regular signs, so I didn't look into it. When finally I did I too was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. this process with my husband and education i have received has given me the fortitude to stick with it and perservere during initial stages.

I have a question. I don’t want to start cpap but I have high bp now. I’m nervous about that. Got put on 3 meds for bp in June. About to start cpap soon. When your husband did, did his bp go down again?

This happened to my dad. His blood pressure was out of control and he was exhausted. Did the sleep study and he had sleep apnea!
