I am in the process of helping my elderly parents register their house as they have lived there since 1982. Is it quite easy to do it ourselves or is it worth paying a conveyancer? They don’t have the deeds as these were ‘stolen’ prior to them owning the house. We have loads of other paperwork from the bank clarifying/certifying what happened.

you dont need to register your property before you sell it. as long as you have your deeds your conveyancer will prepare an epitome of title and the buyers solicitors register it on completion

The land registry processing backlog is currently circa 2 years. Which is appalling service.

I have been in my property since 1989. My house was registered then. I have a copy of the Deeds from the Land Registry and the original paper Deeds.

Ever wondered why the owner of a property is described as ‘Tenant in Common’ on the deeds of a property? 🤔

I agree 100%. My daughter has just bought and when I asked conveyancer about deed she said it was just one page now you got from land registry. When I sold my last house the bank had sent me my deeds as they no longer had the facility to store them, so like you said I had pages of beautiful calligraphy going back to the 1800. I hope my buyer kept them as this is fascinating history potentially which is going to be destroyed, which is shocking!

Best to put the house in trust with your children , when you die the house doesn’t need to go through probate saving solicitors fees and the house will also be registered at land registry to include

Am just going through this process & told the conveyancer I want the original deeds returned, but it does state online that they return them to whoever sends the application, so they don't destroy them.
