@bernadettehagans: Over the past few months, so many local young people in NI have been diagnosed with cancer and have faced, or are facing amputations. It is becoming so common. Since my own diagnosis & amputation so many years ago now, I’ve always tried my best to help every single person that’s wanted my help. Whether that’s meeting them & their families to offer support, answering any questions or customising their new prosthetics to help them adjust to life with a disability. I’ve done all of this in private all these years, and I have realised I need to start documenting doing some of these things, to reach other children that I might miss otherwise, but also to answer the questions any young person has as their face their surgery, life after cancer & life with a prosthetic leg. I want them to be able to come to my page & find any answers they need, because not all are comfortable to reach out. I’m saying all of this because I want to give a heads up to expect a lot more posts about my cancer experience, life with a disability, fashion & sports with a prosthetic leg, especially as a mum, content creator, business owner, but also tips as an amputee (which I’ve kinda already started as my Bionic Basics series). I know some people unfollow when they see content they don’t resonate with, (I lost at least 20k when I announced my pregnancy) - but I will be posting all of this regardless. Appreciate any of you that support it all & help me push the information out for any young person that might need it. When I got diagnosed, I found out alone. I didn’t know much about cancer. I didn’t know anyone with my type of cancer. I didn’t know any amputees. I didn’t know anyone then, with my level of amputation which was rare in itself. I didn’t have someone to answer my questions, but I am a big sister and I will be a big sister to anyone who needs me to be. 💛 #cancersurvivor #limblossawareness #limblossawarenessmonth #limbdifferenceawarenessmonth

I have had skin cancer and lucky for me it was caught at stage 0 melanoma. I just needed the mole removed and a follow up op to remove surrounding skin. My sister has also had stage 1 skin cancer and my mum passed after having bowel cancer. We need people like you to be a voice and support for so many people facing this terrible disease themselves or helping someone they love go through it. You are a rock Bernadette. X

Love this. Love that you will share your journey because the cancer doesn’t define you. It may have changed a part of your body but your heart and soul are still beautiful. You have still been able to carve out a life filled with joy. Helping others and being a voice just goes to show the kind of person you are. This chapter of your life being an advocate for others shows how much you are at peace with your own journey. 🥰

I was diagnosed with cancer when I just turned 24 , I was married 7 months , it deffo wasn’t a great first year of marriage 🫣 people need a good support network , it can take days for the initial diagnosis to sink in , it’s horrible , keep being fabulous 🙏🏻🙏🏻
