The Rosenheim Mansion, globally famous as the terrifying "Murder House" from FX’s American Horror Story, is one of Los Angeles’ most legendary architectural icons. Built in 1908 by prominent architect Alfred Rosenheim as his personal estate, this massive 3-story, 10,000-square-foot mansion stands in the historic Country Club Park neighborhood—an area originally known as LA's 'Billionaire’s Row' where California’s wealthiest families lived. The residence is a masterclass in grand European craftsmanship, boasting Tiffany stained-glass windows, a massive basement, and rare Peruvian mahogany ceilings. Its real history is wilder than fiction: after the Rosenheim family, a religious order of Catholic nuns called the Sisters of Social Service bought the mansion in 1932, adding a massive brick chapel that stood for decades. In 1999, Los Angeles designated the property a Historic-Cultural Monument. However, after starring in American Horror Story in 2011, the house became a viral sensation, leading to an intense real-life saga where subsequent owners sued their real estate brokers because hundreds of trespassing fans and horror tourists flooded the property daily. Today, it remains heavily secured and stands as a fascinating monument to Hollywood pop culture and early 20th-century luxury.
