An eternal soul sounds like all fun and games until you ACTUALLY contemplate eternity. I’m so glad there will be a point where I will cease to exist.

Evidence for your claim? Evidence against the possibility that your consciousness is the observer of your experience or that your ego doesn't imprint upon it. Particle physics and neuroscience are pointing to a non local consciousness. Why couldn't the accumulation of your individual experiences on your individual expressions of the one consciousness be maintained within the whole? Both the ocean and the individual drop within?

I came to the same conclusion, and I think the word soul is misinterpreted, the human character with all it's memories will die, our essence moves on, this essence is energy and it doesn't hold the memories of the character you played, in the end I think we only are pure awareness, even in the dark black, we will be awake and it won't be scary because you hold no memories or emotions, so it's not scary to be in the black of nothingness, that gave me peace that even with my self awareness in fact, because I don't have any emotions or memories, I won't be afraid of nothingness.

How were you able to make peace with that? Please post on your journey or your thoughts, I think the hardest part for me during deconstruction of religion is not being able to be at peace with dying or my loved ones dying and not ever knowing them ever again, this has been the most challenging part it makes me so sad

This makes it easy for me to step in with “spirit”. I can’t remember which theorist said that the nervous system was spiritual, or connected to spirits. That person was correct, despite being dismissed. This is why mind and nervous system need to be separate. Soul and spirits are separate. The body is spiritual. It is connected to spirit AND physical. This is why not all things can be explained if you don’t incorporate spiritual elements. The questions get hazy when you get into emotions and spirits, as they can be yours, theirs, or linked…. Jung’s explanation of Dementia Praecox was key for me to decipher this given I didn’t have access to my own clients… I still haven’t been able to understand why he didn’t “see” what I did in his own writing given his personal experience with Philemon. But his experience was very different from my own, so he possibly didn’t have the opportunity to separate himself from his spiritual experience.

100% agreed, I think that “souls” are formless, when we die our bodies return to nature. Every part of “me” is separated from eachother. The soul never dies because it has no physical form. It may “become something else” another being perhaps but that is not “me” and I love this so much, I do not want to live another life.

in some old fashioned concepts of the soul, humans have three souls. mind soul, heart soul and body soul. nowdays people often think only the mind as the soul

There is no consensus about how consciousness is generated, or how best to approach the question, but all investigations start with the incontrovertible premise that consciousness comes about from the action of the brain.

I agree with this and I think it’s possible that I believe both ideas that the soul is driven by our fear of death but it still gives me a sense of hope that I will still technically exist in a sense of memory and matter in the universe when I am no longer conscious:0

It’s easy to believe the ‘immortal’ soul was invented by us because fesr of death. I think mysteries are one of the few things that make life worth living

I would’ve agreed with you until my spouse died. Then I had too many unexplained coincidences that I couldn’t ignore. It made it impossible for me to ignore that energy still exists.

Love your content! Curious what your thoughts are on the afterlife. I don’t believe in heaven and hell per se, but I grapple with the thought that we might all end up in the same place, or we might all end up being nothing when we die. It’s hard to imagine there’s no reward or incentive for being a good person, and no punishment or reckoning for people who are truly evil on earth. What if none of it matters?

Hmm… I see it as my soul doesn’t have preferences but it has experiences; I’ve had visions of moments when I was in another body. During those moments, I don’t remember my preferences but I remember the scenarios and actions taken. I have no emotions about all of it (when I have the vision), I’m neutral about the experience.

wouldn't it be just as the same before birth, you didn't even have to worry about the identity 'britney Hartley' you just were it, the same like saying looking into the sky is just you looking into hydrogen, iron and infinite pure potential, but even if you knew what happens after death, it still implies a knower, a knower inevitably still implies identity, you could attempt hiding behind the I AM or Consciousness problem- but there's still an underlying you being felt, and "being felt" knowingness will one day too without you even being aware just go black/quiet/nothing? But I am just grateful each day the people I went to bed with at home I am able to wake up with the next day and experience it, sitting with the idea in my head that one day these people and I will pass away, as much as I would like to hide within my Self-realisation path.

I don’t think anything happens after we die…. I think consciousness is entirely the brain…. We had no consciousness before we were born so I don’t see why we would have any after we die.
