@emilyt_therapy: Replying to @goldierubentein If you’ve been in therapy for a while and still feel like you can’t open up, that’s important information Look at: • how long you’ve been in treatment • your therapist’s modality (some styles don’t prioritize building depth the same way) • your patterns with vulnerability and communication This isn’t about blame, it’s about figuring out what’s getting in the way. My recommendation: bring it up directly to the therapist and go from there. One example of how to do this is: “I’m noticing I’m having a hard time opening up here and I think we should talk about it” This is easier said than done, but it is extremely important for your own therapy. You deserve to get the treatment you need and are paying for. Don’t hold back from bringing this up! —————————————————————— #therapistsontiktok #therapistadvice #therapist #mentalheath #therapytiktok

Is there a difference between opening up by telling my therapist something, and opening up by showing emotion? I feel like I can do one but not the other

My problem is bringing things up, not talking about. And my therapist more than likely won’t ask or anything so it’s a problem

once my therapist showed she was incompetent I had to let her go sad because she my first therapist and I trusted her now I have to start from square one

I hate being vulnerable and learned over the years to make them aware of it. I struggled for 5 years not being aware of myself and when I switched to a new therapist I told her immediately and I have never had better therapy! We also have an amazing relationship though!

I saw a therapist for several years and never opened up to her. She only did CBT or wanted me to try EMDR. I dreaded going to be honest. I got a book on my own about DBT and it is so much better than CBT for me. It felt like she just wanted me to dwell on the past and I was worse after a visit.

I can say everything I can think of, on a very first meeting. That seems not to help much, because eventually they start asking how I feel, and afaik I don’t feel.

I struggle with opening up, even after years! I dont want to open up to someone until I know we vibe well, and I feel more comfortable even just existing in front of them, but, then by that point im scared to open up and scare them away or make a fool of myself and ruin that relationship.

I had a therapist but could not open up to her because I didn’t trust her and I didn’t even know why I needed therapy
