@insideouthealing: And please god never say “it’s just hair, it’ll grow back” to somebody who lost their hair against their will #chemo #cancer #hairloss #chemohairloss
I literally look in the mirror and get a jump scare every single time

Having no hair is a constant reminder I’m sick. It’s mentally tortuous.

I was 26 when I was diagnosed and lost my hair. It was the physical representation of my illness. But the worst was when I lost my eyebrows, I felt like a literal alien in my own body.

I admit that I hate my bald head when I first shaved it I was not upset and it looked good but now that the buzz look is now actual baldness and I look like uncle fester I don’t like how I look in the mirror .. and I’m 47. I feel like some people that share and embrace going out bald or as they are are is awesome and I think they look great. I also think it’s ok to feel like we do and choose not too. Unfortunately my face has gotten puffy from the steroids and my neck so add that to a bald head … I have had some meltdowns before getting ready to go out to run an errand trust me.

I start chemo in the next 2-3 weeks and I’m terrified . Did the double mastectomy and did okay with that even with the Frankenstein scars.. but the thought of losing my hair is making me nauseas . My little security blanket. I enjoyed this video and relating to you. Thank you for being vulnerable and posting this. You are so beautiful and your wig loooks amazing ! I hope I learn how to wear them 😂

I can share my bald head. I cannot share the 40lbs weight gain and moon face. I can’t even look at myself in the mirror. The shame for me is real.

Feel whatever you need to feel. You are courageous. This is terrible. I’m a “young 56” and have always been considered attractive. Who cares if we’re vain. No shame, my love!

I think about that all the time, if I had my hair I feel like it would make it 1000% easier. We lose our whole identity, I would look at myself in the mirror and literally question who was I looking at❤️🩹

So well put. I am about to begin my second cancer with chemo and hair loss but I don’t have the words to express my feelings so you did that so well

Same same same. First outing in a headwrap was yesterday. The wigs don’t fit me. I can’t stand seeing myself bald. I don’t even want to touch my own head. I get it. It’s brutal.

Thank you for sharing. You are not alone in how to feel. I just lost my hair for the second time and I agree with you that hair loss is by far one of the hardest parts of the cancer journey. I don’t feel like myself at all, and while I have a really gorgeous, realistic looking wig, I feel so depressed when I take it off and I’m back to being the bald girl. ☹️

You’re so beautiful, and I totally understand the feeling of being a little vain. I’m just starting my journey and have been praying I don’t lose my hair. Where did you get your wig?

For me that was the hardest part to lose my hair. I’ve always had long hair and very pretty hair and just seeing myself bald was heartbreaking. I remember not wanting to see myself in mirror. I would just turn them the other way because I felt so ashamed.

My hair is growing back, but slowly, and I hate it. It has some gray in it randomly and it grew back darker. It looks like an old woman’s hair with all the curls. I can’t stand to look at myself. I never look in the mirror unless I have to go somewhere. I’m too ashamed to show my head to anyone. It hasn’t gotten any easier. I haven’t been able to wear a wig because I feel like someone will know it’s fake and judge me. The one time I wore one for a few hours, I got a migraine. So, beanies are the only thing I can tolerate. I agree with you - Keeping my hair would have changed my mindset and made me feel less like a cancer patient. I would have had so much more peace of mind and confidence that I would survive.

I refused to even look in the mirror some days! Sitting down doing my makeup, in a zoomed in mirror, and in the end putting a wig on, was when for a split second I looked and felt like normal and then the realization kicks in again. I lost mine twice! I grew it out 22 months and then went through it the second time 🤦🏻♀️I’m back to 13 months grown out! You look gorj girl, do whatever makes you feel your best and don’t you dare judge yourself for any of it! ❤️🙏🏻
