@notheoryclub: These patterns are a cheatcode that prevent rhythm learned as a skill. #learnguitar #acousticguitar #guitarlesson #beginnerguitar #guitartips
I think the patterns are important for beginners to develop their strumming ability but they are not to be relied on as you say

okay but how do I know how to strum the chords, I can't hear the beat when listening to a song, how do I practice rhythm?

Your absolutely right. When I first started a Guitar and Ukulele's, My mother always told me that rhythm isn't about what's written, it's about how you hear the song. And when I tried teaching my friends string instruments, they always followed what's on the paper and lessen their progress. Sometimes I give them the correct rhythm by tapping, Letting them hear what specific "rhythm". and it actually helped me too getting easier on most songs in both the Guitar and Ukulele

I just listen to the song and learn how it kinda sounds and then feel the music in the rhythm doesn’t have to be perfect but it has to sound good or similar

Great advice. Forget down up down and just feel the rhythm. Basic and boring is better than choppy down up

I started 2 years ago but unfortunately have no natural talent 🤣 I do follow lessons, when I want to lean a new song I start with a simple up down up down. And listen to the song and decide what sounds best and is feasible for me.

Diagrams have never helped me. Once I know a song, I automatically can feel it and know the strumming. Maybe I'm meant to play drums as well? But it's something about knowing the songs and feeling the melody, that just makes the strumming flow easily for me

No literally. Just started strumming and can play wonderwall easy because I know the rhythm but any other song I try and learn with the patterns I struggle

I think you’re right. I needed them before and I need them for playing other peoples songs but I like my own strum patterns best.

I actually used that at first but then I felt like it was inefficient and just started like sounding the rhythm out on whats the closest thing
